The settlements category of Singapore’s national greenhouse gas inventory, which follows the international convention that settlements covers all developed land, including land used for transport and other infrastructure. Parks, golf courses, cemeteries, streetscape trees and bare ground inside developed areas are all counted as developed. Only forest land, wetlands including reservoirs and canals, and cropland are excluded, and since the whole territory is assigned to just four categories, this figure behaves partly as a residual. It should be read against another country’s inventory figure on the same convention, not against a cadastral or planning definition.

The Singapore Land Authority publishes total land area as at 31 December; the 2025 value is 744.3 km², against 735.7 a year earlier, because reclamation adds land and the figure is restated annually. A separate as-at-June land series also exists and reads 736.3 km² for June 2025. An undated Singapore area figure can therefore come from either series and either year.
The population figure is the total population counted by place of usual residence: 3,660,683 citizens, 543,832 permanent residents and about 1.91 million non-residents. Two narrower official concepts circulate beside it, a resident population of 4,204,515 and citizens alone at 3,660,683. Substituting either would cut the density by roughly a third or more.
